Tim Barrick
Hey — I’m Tim, a portrait photographer currently traveling across North America creating photos for couples, families, friends, and anyone who wants to feel a little more at ease in front of a camera.
Most of my work happens outdoors in public spaces: parks, downtown streets, community events, quiet corners of cities I’m passing through, and the occasional spot someone local insists I see before leaving town.
Some sessions are planned in advance. Others happen through pop-up portrait events along the way. A lot of the people I photograph have never had professional photos taken before — or haven’t in a very long time — and I care deeply about making the experience feel relaxed, welcoming, and accessible.
I believe good portraits aren’t really about looking perfect. They’re about connection.
A real laugh.
The way someone looks at the person they love.
A moment where you actually recognize yourself in the image.
That’s the stuff I’m chasing.
A Little About Me
I grew up in Indiana, studied photography in Montreal, and now split my time between Montreal summers and life on the road the rest of the year.
Photography first hooked me back in high school with my dad’s old film SLR. After drifting away from it for a while, I eventually found my way back — and realized this was the work I wanted to build my life around.
I’m bilingual-ish (English first, French with an accent and occasional stumbles), deeply fueled by good conversation, and always happy when dogs show up to a session.
I’m also a Christian, and my faith quietly shapes the way I approach people and this work. I believe everyone deserves to feel respected, comfortable, and genuinely seen. That matters to me far more than creating overly polished or performative images.
My Approach
I try to keep sessions simple, collaborative, and low-pressure.
I’ll guide you when needed, leave room for natural moments when they happen, and usually show you the back of the camera along the way so you can see what I’m seeing too.
Whether we’re doing a full session, a quick pop-up portrait, or just wandering around your favorite neighborhood together, my goal is the same:
Create something honest.
Something alive.
Something that feels like you.
And if we end up talking about life, travel, faith, relationships, or the best local coffee shops, even better.
