This October, I had the pleasure of photographing Alix and Florian, a French couple who recently made the exciting decision to start a new chapter of life in Montreal. Set against the historic charm of Montreal’s Old Port, their shoot was filled with laughter, candid moments, and the unmistakable warmth of two people who truly enjoy life’s simple pleasures together.
A Love Story Rooted in Connection and Adventure
Alix and Florian first met in 2015 in France through a dating app, discovering they lived just a few kilometers apart yet came from different backgrounds. Nearly ten years later, they embarked on a journey of expatriation, moving to Canada and immersing themselves in Montreal’s unique blend of cultures and vibrant city life. It was my goal to reflect this sense of adventure and new beginnings throughout our photoshoot, capturing the essence of their relationship and their shared excitement for the future.
Starting with Pointe-à-Callière – The Heart of Montreal’s History
We began the session near the Pointe-à-Callière, Montreal’s premier archaeology and history complex. Surrounded by cobblestone streets and timeless architecture, Alix and Florian brought a modern vibrancy to this historic setting. Their personalities shone through in each frame – playful, loving, and unafraid to show their authentic selves. For them, this photoshoot was a “first” they wanted to experience together, one of the many “firsts” they cherish as a couple.
As Alix shared, she admires Florian for his self-reflection, patience, and tenacity. Florian, in turn, spoke of Alix’s big heart and generosity. These qualities were evident as they laughed together, exchanged affectionate glances, and shared quiet moments between shots. Their openness and ease made it easy to capture the genuine closeness and warmth they share.
An Adventure Across the Old Port to the Palais des congrès de Montréal
Our shoot continued through the picturesque paths of the Old Port, winding our way toward the Palais des congrès de Montréal. The blend of historic charm and vibrant cityscapes created a beautiful, colorful backdrop, fitting for Alix and Florian, who see themselves as a “colorful couple.” With the colorful façade of the Palais des congrès in the background, they celebrated the fun, unconventional aspects of their relationship.
This photoshoot marked a meaningful new experience for them, one they described as a blend of excitement and comfort. For them, sharing life’s simple pleasures – a cozy movie night, a delicious meal, and plenty of shared laughs – is what makes their relationship special. Their next steps may include buying a home and planning a wedding, but for now, they’re savoring the joy of being together and embracing each new experience as it comes.
